Update from Peace Corps Ecuador

Update from Peace Corps Ecuador

Here is an update from Peace Corps Ecuador with a new arrival of PCVs, PCE’s effort to conserve energy, and more.

Recent arrival of new PCVs.

We are very glad to announce the arrival of a group of 30 Trainees in January 15th representing the diversity of the United States, which will be attending training for 12 weeks in topics related to Cultural Adaptation, Spanish and Technical lessons in preparation for their development work in the next coming 27 months.  The programs in which they will be working are Natural Resources Conservation and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

Peace Corps Green Energy Challenge

Ecuador has been recognized as one of the three posts that have been most successful at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by lowering their electricity bills.  Posts around the world have tracked energy use, developed plans for appropriate energy improvements and continue to educate others about their efforts.  During this challenge, the Post that reported the greatest percent change reduction since the previous fiscal year was Armenia, Benín and Ecuador.  Ecuador was the winner in the Interamerican Pacific Region.   Congratulations to all staff for this effort!

Medical inventory and third goal accomplishments.

The last week of January we are receiving a filming team from HQ that will film our medical inventory process, which have been a great success and a good example for other posts.  At the same time, the filming team will take some shots of several volunteers who had participated in the World Wise School Correspondence Match Program, to capture their achievement of Peace Corps Third Goal.
