How can Friends of Ecuador sponsor my organization?

Friends of Ecuador offers a secure environment to post a description of your community project.  After an initial screening process, we add your organization to a list of projects that members can donate to through our secure server.

For further information on donating, see FAQ "Get involved" or read more under the lefthand column "Get Involved".

Can a third party be the point of contact for the applicant organization?
In the case of some Peace Corps Volunteers, they are the only persons linked to the community project who have consistent access and familiarity with email. In that event, the PCV may serve as the point of contact for the community project. The PCV should find 3 other references who could include APCDs, friends who are familiar with the project, and other PCVs.
If my project gets listed on the site, what are my group's obligations?

You need to provide us with a progress report after six months. To download a reporting form, go here and scroll down to the bottom of the page or go under the "Apply for Funds" link on the left-margin.

What are the funding criteria?
Here are our funding criteria. For more info, click here or the "Apply for Funds" link on the left margin.

Friends of Ecuador Funding Criteria

  1. We support organizations that do grassroots development work in Ecuador.
  2. We prefer to support organizations where small donations of $1,000 or less can make a difference. Organizations that have large, established sources of funding should not apply.
  3. For ease of communications, organizations we support must have an e-mail address and, preferably, a website. We will post descriptions of the organizations and the project on our website.
  4. Organizations that receive support from Friends of Ecuador must submit a progress report within six months of having received a donation. A reporting form will be available on-line. Failure to fulfill reporting criteria will make an organization ineligible to receive further funding from FOE.
  5. To receive funds from Friends of Ecuador, an organization must provide three references who are not relatives of contact person, at least two of which have e-mail addresses.
  6. Applications can be in English or Spanish but must be submitted on-line to foe@friendsofecuador.org
  7. Any indication that funds have been spent for personal use will make the organization ineligible to receive further funding from FOE.
Does FOE provide funds directly to groups?

We have a tiny budget. We prefer to allow groups to list their project on our site and publicize the organization to our members who can vote with their money. If your project sounds good, they should support it. If your project idea is not very good or compelling, they won't. This site will also allow you to use your personal networks of friends and family to bundle donations in a low-cost way. You can tell everybody once your project is listed to make a donation.

Sometimes, FOE will make small dirct donations to projects but this will generally be for amounts less than $500 and to current Peace Corps Volunteers.

A group that was Featured no longer is Featured, what happened?

The project's fundraising goal was met or the organization withdrew its proposal. In the case of the former, look for news about the project here or under "Orgs Supported" on the left-hand margin.
